Normal Life Returns!

Finally! A bit of normality returning to the hall! Remember to contact us if you have an event in mind, we’ll do our best to accommodate you, we’re looking forward to blowing the cobwebs off the bar this year!

The table below lists those classes currently resuming. However, as Covid regulations are still in a state of flux, please contact us if you have any queries or doubts.

All change at the top

Denise Peck has stood down as Chairman of Starkholmes Village Hall Committee after leading the Hall through the last couple of years of change and challenge. She has been succeeded by the current Vice Chairman Paul Clements.

President of the Village Hall Jeff Wheatley paid tribute to her work:

Denise has given the Village Hall outstanding leadership and direction during a time of change and numerous challenges.

She became Chairman on a temporary basis because we had lost a number of experienced members for various reasons, and provided continuity for the running of the Hall as well as supporting the new members.

She played a key role in directing enhancements to the Village Hall property such as the new bar, the kitchen and improvements to the toilets.

Her contribution to the financial viability of the Hall was vital with her work initially as Treasurer and later as Chairman to get grants and access to funding sources helping to keep the Village Hall afloat. In addition she provided a steadying hand and calm manner that gained the respect of all.

She’s also been actively involved since March in organising the changes necessary for the Village Hall to become Covid Safe, and then to welcome back most of our users in recent weeks.”

Denise joined the Village Hall Committee in October 2015 and was previously Treasurer for nearly 4 years. She said that her decision to step down as Chairman had been difficult but she felt it was the right time for her personally to pass on the role, whilst a new Chairman would bring in some fresh new ideas.

At the AGM on September 20th, Paul Clements was elected as the new Chairman, and Denise agreed to carry on as a Committee Member. Jeff Wheatley commented: “We are really lucky to have such a knowledgeable Chairman as Paul to succeed Denise”.

Interactive Fun Quiz Night

This event was originally scheduled during last March but had to be cancelled as the country entered into the Covid-19 lockdown. We had hoped to have the quiz on the 23rd of October, but are very sorry to have to say it has again had to be cancelled due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.

Hopefully we can look to reschedule this event in the New Year.

COVID-19 Update

We are pleased to announce that the Village Hall is re-opening in accordance with Government Guidelines : Guidance for the safe use of multi-purpose community facilities. These can be read here. Please note that they are updated from time to time by the Government as circumstances and medical advice change.

The Village Hall committee is necessarily following a cautious approach and a great deal of effort has gone into making sure the Hall is as safe as possible. If you have any doubts or queries regarding the use of the Hall under the current circumstances, please contact us for clarification.

Interactive Fun Quiz Night

Please note that this event is now rescheduled for February 19th 2021.

This event was originally scheduled during last March but had to be cancelled as the country entered into the Covid-19 lockdown.

Matlock Rotary and the Village Hall are now pleased to announce that the same event has been rescheduled for Friday, October 23rd. Details below.

County Councils Community Leadership Fund

We are all living in extremely strange times indeed at the moment. Since the end of March, Starkholmes Village Hall has, like almost every public venue, had to close to all of our community groups to avoid the spread of Covid-19. Instantaneously our income was eliminated whilst we still have to meet our contractual financial obligations. These costs have been met in part through our own funds but also from receipt of a £500 grant awarded from the County Councils Community Leadership Fund, sponsored by Cllr Sue Burfoot. The award is gratefully received and will allow us to weather this storm until we can re-open to our community and private groups, hopefully in the near future.

Village Hall Closed

The Village Hall committee has had to reluctantly close the Hall until further notice in response to the Coronavirus epidemic.

Our apologies to all our users for the inconvenience this will undoubtedly cause, but we hope everyone will recognise the necessity of this step.

Quiz Night Cancelled

The Interactive Fun Quiz Night jointly organised with Matlock Rotary and scheduled for March 27th has been cancelled due to concerns with the current Coronavirus epidemic. Apologies to all concerned – we hope to reschedule it for September.
