All change at the top

Denise Peck has stood down as Chairman of Starkholmes Village Hall Committee after leading the Hall through the last couple of years of change and challenge. She has been succeeded by the current Vice Chairman Paul Clements.

President of the Village Hall Jeff Wheatley paid tribute to her work:

Denise has given the Village Hall outstanding leadership and direction during a time of change and numerous challenges.

She became Chairman on a temporary basis because we had lost a number of experienced members for various reasons, and provided continuity for the running of the Hall as well as supporting the new members.

She played a key role in directing enhancements to the Village Hall property such as the new bar, the kitchen and improvements to the toilets.

Her contribution to the financial viability of the Hall was vital with her work initially as Treasurer and later as Chairman to get grants and access to funding sources helping to keep the Village Hall afloat. In addition she provided a steadying hand and calm manner that gained the respect of all.

She’s also been actively involved since March in organising the changes necessary for the Village Hall to become Covid Safe, and then to welcome back most of our users in recent weeks.”

Denise joined the Village Hall Committee in October 2015 and was previously Treasurer for nearly 4 years. She said that her decision to step down as Chairman had been difficult but she felt it was the right time for her personally to pass on the role, whilst a new Chairman would bring in some fresh new ideas.

At the AGM on September 20th, Paul Clements was elected as the new Chairman, and Denise agreed to carry on as a Committee Member. Jeff Wheatley commented: “We are really lucky to have such a knowledgeable Chairman as Paul to succeed Denise”.
